Missing Teeth

Berks County, Reading and Wyomissing, Pennsylvania

Missing teeth can cause many problems aside from the obvious one of being embarrassing. At Dr. Schwartz's Wyomissing Family and Cosmetic Dentistry practice, he and his Team are dedicated to restoring your smile to a healthy one you can be proud of.

When a tooth is missing, it can damage the surrounding teeth, gum line and your overall facial appearance. It can contribute to neuromuscular problems, which can have far-reaching effects on your overall health. This seems like a lot of problems from one little missing tooth, doesn't it?

The fact is, with nothing to keep them in place, your remaining teeth will begin to shift out of their normal positions. This will cause alignment issues in the future.

Also, your gum line depends on your teeth to maintain its symmetry. When a tooth is missing, the gum line becomes weak and begins to cave in. This will eventually cause your facial features to shift and alter.

The best way to handle a missing tooth is to have it fixed before it becomes a problem. Dr. Schwartz offers a variety of treatment options for replacing missing teeth. Which method used is determined by each individual person’s needs and the best solution for those needs.

  • Bridges – Bridges are fixed restorations that can provide a lifetime solution to missing teeth. The crown portions of the bridge are caps that are fitted over the surrounding teeth. The bridge portion connects an artificial tooth that fills the gap to the surrounding crowned teeth.
  • Dentures – With today's technology, dentures no longer click, slip, collect odors or cause discomfort for the wearer. Dentures are now designed with better technology in order to offer the guest confidence and a secure fit. They can be designed to look like natural teeth and gums and fit securely in your mouth so they look just like your own teeth.
  • Dental Implants – Although Dr. Schwartz does not currently perform the surgical phase of the implant procedure, he can refer you to an excellent oral surgeon in the area who can place the implant.  After the implant is placed, he can make sure you receive the best possible crown for the implant to ensure that the tooth looks as good as the one that was lost.
