This guest was getting teased in school over the way her front teeth stuck out. After years of wishing for a better smile, we began her orthodontic journey. Using neuromuscular orthodontics techniques, we not only addressed her cosmetic concerns, but we identified and eliminated that underlying causes for the teeth to be the way they were. There is no more teasing now. Smiling is now her newest hobby.
- In Progress

- Before

This guest lived with her congenitally missing front tooth for years. Trying to hide her smile, for she always thought that she was too old to do anything about it. Even in an adult we can orthopedically change the bone that hold the teeth to create the space that nature had intended. Although she is still in treatment, in only 6 months time, we were able to gain the necessary space. She cannot wait until we can complete her makeover with ceramic veneers and bridges. What a phenomenal result so far.

- Before Expansion

Many orthodontists have told me that you cannot expand and get bone to grow once a person is out of their teens. Others would say that you can. One of my many mentors, Dr. Omer Reed, states that “If it has been done before, it is probably possible to do it again.” It is possible! Look at the nice wide arch forms that she now has. This is what gives big, bright smiles without the dark, toothless corners.

The orthodontic brackets were removed today and a new temporary tooth placed to retain the space for the congenitally missing front tooth. She has come a long way, but the end is in sight. Once the back teeth settle in a bit more, we can finish the cosmetic changes that she wants.

This guest had braces as a teen. Over the years, the teeth moved back, for the underlying cause of her malocclusion was never corrected. With Neuromuscular Orthodontics, we investigate the source of the problem, and if it is still present, correct it so that our finished tooth positions are more stable. In this case, the dental arches were narrow due to her inability to easily breathe through her nose. The sinuses were opened up, and the arches were expanded. In her teenage orthodontic treatment, two teeth were removed. Ideally, those spaces would have been opened back up and implants placed to correct the deficiencies. She did not want to go that way, so compromises had to be made. Once the teeth have time to settle in, we will finish with some veneers to fix the chipped front teeth.

With Neuromuscular Orthodontics, we also track the activity if the muscles to confirm that we have established the correct biting position. In the muscle activity scans above, more lines means more activity. The before scan on the left shows a lot of activity in the left temporalis muscle (black) when she brought her teeth together. The right scan taken as we finished the orthodontic treatment, shows very little change in the muscle activity when she brought her teeth together. This helps confirm that we are in a stable position.
