Crooked Teeth
Reading and Berks County, Reading and Wyomissing, Pennsylvania
One of the most common dental problems that people come to Dr. Schwartz's, Wyomissing, Pennsylvania dental practice with is crooked teeth. For years, the only solution to crooked teeth was bulky, all-metal braces that embarrassed the person even more than the crooked teeth did. Today, more advanced dental technology removes the issues surrounding a lack of options for the people who needs braces.
Traditional Orthodontics
Before dental technology advanced to the point of introducing porcelain veneers, traditional orthodontics was the only way for dentists to repair crooked teeth. There have been advances in the traditions, however.
Braces used to be available only in the well-known bulky metal form. Now, braces come in different designs and materials. The brackets for braces can now be made from any of the following:
- Stainless steel
- Gold Plated
- Ceramic
- Plastic
Braces are also available in more than one style. Some of these include the traditional style (all metal on the fronts of teeth), the lingual style (attached behind the teeth) and self-ligating (not requiring elastic ligatures to keep wires in place, and can reduce treatment time by as much as 6 months for adults).
Which form of brackets and braces are best to suit your individual needs must be determined by your case examination and Dr. Schwartz's recommendations.
These days, many dentists are promoting Invisalign orthodontic treatment. Dr. Schwartz does not currently use Invisalign devices because they are too limited in their utility for the needs of his guests. In his practice, Dr. Schwartz works with traditional orthodontic technology that he can combine with neuromuscular orthodontic technology for his guests who also suffer with neuromuscular problems.
Porcelain Veneers
Another very successful method for repairing the appearance of crooked teeth is the use of porcelain veneers, sometimes called "instant orthodontics." These are thin, ceramic shells that are placed over the existing teeth to provide a straight and bright smile.
Porcelain veneers are extremely durable when bonded to natural teeth and provide the guest with the same functionality as his or her original teeth. They are a permanent alternative to traditional braces and they provide an instantly-improved appearance in your smile.
