Chipped Teeth

Berks County, Reading and Wyomissing, Pennsylvania

A chipped tooth can be the result of a number of accidents. People aren't born with them, but anything from a sports accident to a car accident to simply tripping and falling can chip a tooth. So, now that you have one or several, how do you fix them? At Dr. Schwartz's Wyomissing, Pennsylvania Family and Cosmetic Dentistry practice, you will be given the best options available to meet your individual needs.

Veneers
A porcelain veneer can be used to restore a tooth that has been chipped. Instead of needing to rebuild the tooth, a veneer covers the front of the damaged tooth and is designed to be shaped and colored to precisely match the rest of the your teeth.

Bonding
Dental bonding can be useful to repair a chipped tooth for cosmetic purposes, as well as maintaining the tooth's health. When a tooth is chipped, the enamel surface is weakened and it can no longer sufficiently protect the tooth.

Bonding is done with a resin material that is made of a plastic that hardens to look and perform like dental enamel. The resin used is designed to restore your tooth with a durable surface that is molded to match the rest of your teeth.

During the bonding process, Dr. Schwartz will prepare your tooth and apply a solution that aids in helping the bonding material to adhere to your tooth. The bonding resin is then applied and sculpted to the proper size and shape to restore your damaged or chipped tooth. Your newly shaped tooth is then polished and checked for color match to your surrounding teeth.  Although it does not provide quite the same level of cosmetic remedy as porcelain veneers, bonding is a cost-effective treatment for chipped teeth.

Crowns
For a tooth that has been severely chipped, a dental crown may be placed to restore the damaged tooth. A porcelain crown is basically a cap that is fitted over the tooth and formed to match the original shape of the tooth.

Which cosmetic dentistry method is best for you will be determined by your specific needs and the recommendations and preferences of your cosmetic dentist.
