Dental Bridges

Berks County, Reading and Wyomissing, Pennsylvania

A dental bridge is used to replace a missing tooth that has fallen out or been removed due to extensive damage. The gap between the remaining teeth can cause problems for both the surrounding teeth and the gums because each tooth offers stability to the area it occupies. At Dr. Schwartz's Wyomissing, Pennsylvania dental practice, you will be given the best type of dental bridge to suit your specific needs.

In some cases, the surrounding teeth will begin shifting out of place. In others, the gum line in the area of the missing tooth will begin to fall, changing the shape of your gum line and even the appearance of your facial features in that area. These factors can change your overall bite and possibly begin to cause neuromuscular dental issues.

The Procedure
In order to place a bridge, the two surrounding teeth must be prepared to receive crowns. First, impressions of the teeth are taken before any prep work is done to them. This allows Dr. Schwartz to create a temporary bridge for you.

A local anesthetic is used to numb the area and the teeth are prepared to receive the anchoring crowns. Once this is completed, the temporary bridge is placed and the impressions are sent to the dental lab. Crowns will be designed for each of your surrounding teeth and an artificial tooth is placed between them, with the bridge connecting all three teeth to each other.

Once your permanent bridge is completed, your second appointment involves testing for proper fit and cementing the bridge in place. You will be given instructions for caring for and cleaning your bridge.

Color Choices
When placing a dental bridge, Dr. Schwartz will take some factors into consideration in choosing the color of the porcelain that will be used to create the bridge. Some of these factors include:

  • The color of your natural teeth
  • Your eye color
  • Your hair color
  • Your complexion

The best dental restoration procedures take all of these factors into consideration in order to provide you with the most natural looking dental work available to you. Dr. David A. Schwartz prides himself on the quality of his work, the experience he brings to his practice and the personalized care he offers each of his guests.
