Gaps Between Teeth
Berks County, Reading and Wyomissing, Pennsylvania
Diastemas, or gaps, between the teeth can cause embarrassment and problems with the alignment of the rest of your teeth. Dr. Schwartz can repair gaps between your teeth through traditional orthodontic techniques or by placing porcelain veneers on the fronts of your teeth.
There are various reasons that a person's teeth may have gaps in them. For example, when a person's jaw bones do not match the size of their teeth, often the teeth may be too small to fill the gaps between them. Another reason for gaps between the teeth may be that some of the person's teeth are missing or are smaller than the other teeth.
Still another possibility is overgrowth of the labial frenum. This is the piece of tissue that reaches from the gum above your two front teeth to the inside of your upper lip. In some cases, this tissue grows further down between the two front teeth. If this happens, the tissue can prevent the gap between the two front teeth from closing.
Traditional Orthodontics
Traditional orthodontics generally employ the use of braces to realign the guest's teeth in closer proximity to one another. There are options available for the style of braces used on the teeth as well as the material they are made from.
The styles include lingual, self-ligating and traditional. The materials can be ceramic, stainless steel, plastic, or gold plated. There are many more options to choose from now that the technology has continued to advance and improve orthodontic techniques.
Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers offer an alternative with immediate results to repositioning your teeth. Veneers are shaped from a mold taken of the natural teeth. Ceramic material is sculpted to match the color, shape and size of the existing teeth. The veneers are extremely thin and are bonded to the front surface of the real teeth to restore a beautiful, straight and bright smile with no gaps between the teeth. The procedure takes much less time to be effective and requires fewer visits to the dentist's chair because veneers are permanent and need no adjusting.
